We are a group of people committed to the cause of India Pakistan Friendship, an ever growing community of netizens, with real life extension and influence. It's been long since our immoral politicians, generals and religious bigots, have cheated us. Lets make a new beginning with new friends...let's get over our pre-conceived notions and convictions and write a new chapter in the history of Indo-Pak relations.

Why shouldn't we be friends? Lahore is nearer to Delhi than Washington or London. We look alike, we have similar cultures, and we speak the same language. We have been united in our struggle for freedom. But somewhere we got misguided misled and we became prey to the machinations of an outsider.

There were instances of Muslims rescuing Hindus and vice versa at great risk to themselves. Sociologist Ashis Nandy says these account for at least 25% to 30% of all those who were saved from death at the hands of a mob. This is no exaggeration. The positive stories have largely remained untold. They were obscured by the larger tension and hatred. Most people who follow South Asia have either watched the Beating the Retreat ceremony at Wagah on the India-Pakistan border on video or been there in person. The farcical and choreographed display by goose-stepping soldiers from India and Pakistan as they slam shut the gates on the border crossing is such a staple for Western journalists that it has almost become too cliched to write about. But having been there myself for the first time last week, after 10 years of following India and Pakistan, I can’t resist throwing in my own two cents’ worth.
