Welcome to India Pakistan Friendship Club

RUK JAAYENGE NEHI KAHI HUM HAAR KE…KAL YEH JAHA BADLAYENGE HUM…YEH WAADA RAHA HUMARA!

It's been long since our immoral politicians, generals and religious bigots, have cheated us. Lets make a new beginning with new friends...let's get over our pre-conceived notions and convictions and write a new chapter in the history of Indo-Pak relations.

Why shouldn't we be friends? Lahore is nearer to Delhi than Washington or London. We look alike, we have similar cultures, and we speak the same language. We have been united in our struggle for freedom. But somewhere we got misguided misled and we became prey to the machinations of an outsider.

February is the month of love. It’s time to give and receive love, and to make peace with people around us.

Let us take this opportunity to look beyond ourselves. Let us transcend our limitations and hesitations. Let us take a chance to attempt to live in peace and harmony with our social and natural environment.

Reclaiming shared cultures could resist the clamping of boundaries and challenge the mutually destructive paths that Indian and Pakistani states have imposed upon us as our destinies:

1947 was not just about India’s Independence, it was an initiator of identities imposed from ‘above’. The new postcolonial states ventured to redefine their status through a mix of jingoism, the rewriting of history and the whipping up of the nation-state mantra – essentially Western in concept and practice. The journey of South Asian people therefore, has been fraught with wars, hysteria and state diktat articulating itself through prejudiced educational curricula and state-sponsored historical half-truths.

Jaswant Singh in his recent book on Jinnah has praised the secular nature of Jinnah and has held Nehru-Patel responsible for Partition of India. Many people from Pakistan are praising Jaswant Singh’s book to the sky, while here in India there is a mixed reaction. Most strong one came from BJP President Rajnath Singh who hinted that any praise of Jinnah, will be met with strict action. The problem with such formulation, Jinnah was secular, Nehru-Patel were responsible for partition, is that it is an extremely superficial analysis and does not look at the complex multilayered phenomenon of partition tragedy. It totally by passes the role of British rulers and the different interests of diverse classes during freedom movement. The response to the book is either at emotive level, our leader versus your leader, or how dare you speak against our icon!
