Recently I have watched a Moblie company advertisement on various channels showing two boys on different side of border,a fenced wire, start talking to each other reluctantly and becoming friends very soon playing football. Background voice say like something,..faasle mit jaayenge..only if we talk.
This commercial take me few years back in my life.Couple of years
ago I had very bad opinion about my neighbour country Pakistan. It was
obvious for me as we all brought up by reading our bitter history
between the two nations. Some Bollywood movies add more to it.We very
often used to criticize and curse Pakistan during our talks within our
friendcircle and I was one of the most prominent to use real bad words
while expressing my views.
Then somehow I join IPFC community on
social network site Orkut. In the begining I was very hostile towards
Pakistani members due to my previous thinking.Few times I met with same
response from members of other side having same feeling as of mine. But
slowly, during coversation with Pak members,I realized that normal
Pakistanis are not at all like those what I think for whole of my life
so far.In the due course I have made several Pakistani friends on net.I
was completely a different man now in terms of my attitude towards
citizens of neighbouring country.
I told my those good old
friends about my experience on IPFC.They all started making fun of
me.Some suggested me to consult with good Doctor.Anyway,I explained to
them about my interaction with Pakistanis on Orkut patiently.Few months
later, during a get together, same friends narrated their experiences on
various social network sites, including Orkut, about their conversations
with Pakistanis.Very surprisingly almost all of them have made friends
across the border. Some of them even conversing on phones with them.
So
true,we have to talk first to make friendly relations even with our
next door neighbours.I would suggest to all those who have enormous
hate for Pakistanis or someone else,to just talk with them, even with
hate in your words, but just talk for some moment. This can reduce your
hate at least,if not turns you to start liking them.
Today when I think about this whole episode, those lines from that commercial ring in my mind,
...only if we talk....
