(an incoherent ramble follows)
Just last night, me and husband were talking about the impossibility
of a cordial relationship between India and Pakistan despite our
heartfelt desire to see them exist peacefully together. It is
impossible because of the very premise that the nation of Pakistan was
created on. Its only reason of existence was ’separation from India’.
The same India that we are hoping for it to co-exist with. It’s sad
though that the citizens on both sides of the separated territories
have more in common with each other than the differences that are
always highlighted.
Currently, I’m working on a project with a non-profit organization.
The group that I am working in comprises of 4 white people, 2 black
people, 3 Pakistanis, 1 Lebanese, 2 Hispanic ladies and me (the sole
Indian representative muhaha). Needless to say, all of us get along
like a house on fire. While with the rest, I get along basically
because they are incredible people but with the Pakistanis, I feel a
strange sense of familiarity in terms of culture et al. We’re the same
people darnit. I grew up with some Pakistani friends too. It hurts me
to know that if I were back in India and these people were in Pakistan,
I’d be forced to see them as an enemy. Why should a small minority of
politicians create inane propaganda to create rifts between people that
are absolutely unnecessary? Why do people accept such propaganda?
I am sorry this post is really not a well-researched or a
well-thought out string of ideas. I’m merely expressing my anguish with
humanity. Would we ever evolve to not be power-hungry?
The next big war, as predicted by various ’scholars’ that I’ve read,
is supposedly between India and Pakistan. When I read that, I think of
my Pakistani friends here in Canada/US and in Pakistan (those I met
through Blogging) … I see no reason to be fighting with them. They’re
just like me and any one else I know. They want peace just as much as I
do. Why should there be war between the two countries? Why the tension?
People don’t hate each other. Not anymore atleast. Times have moved on.
Younger generations have moved on past historic rivalries and bitter
experiences. We don’t want to fight!!!!! End all the wars in the world
darnit!
ok, done for now.
