February is the month of love. It’s time
to give and receive love, and to make peace with people around us.
Let us take this opportunity to look
beyond ourselves. Let us transcend our limitations and hesitations. Let
us take a chance to attempt to live in peace and harmony with our social
and natural environment.

Reclaiming shared cultures could resist the clamping of boundaries
and challenge the mutually destructive paths that Indian and Pakistani
states have imposed upon us as our destinies:
1947 was not just
about India’s Independence, it was an initiator of identities imposed
from ‘above’. The new postcolonial states ventured to redefine their
status through a mix of jingoism, the rewriting of history and the
whipping up of the nation-state mantra – essentially Western in concept
and practice. The journey of South Asian people therefore, has been
fraught with wars, hysteria and state diktat articulating itself
through prejudiced educational curricula and state-sponsored historical
half-truths.

Allama Iqbal (the writer of Saare Jahaan se Accha, Hindustaan humaara fame) has nicely put the expectation from people of Hind (Indo pak together), whom he was seeing as leaders of the world.. Sabaq perh phir sadaqat ka, adalat ka, shujaat ka Liya jayey ga tujh say kaam duniya ki imamat ka (Meanings: Sabaq = Lesson; Saqadat = Truth; Adalat = Justice; Shujaat = Bravery; Imamat = Leadership) The line also put down, the qualities a world leader should have. Forget about leading the world, do we have leaders who can lead their respective countries to progress, peace and prosperity? Since this website ipfc.info finds its root from the famous Orkut community, IPFC , I will be soon updating the response from members of that community later, to this article in the comment section. Readers are free to chip in their opinion as well. Be first to comment this article | Add as favourites (0) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 140 |
